Applicator Exams

There are three options for taking your applicator certification exam. Testing at the DMV, testing online with Everblue, or scheduling an appointment to take the written exam. Each option is explained below.

Registered Technicians

Find out if you meet the requirements to become a Virginia Certified Registered Technician.

Print out and mail the appropriate Application for Registered Technician Certification form and required fee to VDACS-OPS, or complete the application process online using the VDACS Pesticide Online Portal.

Private Applicators

Find out if you meet the requirements to become a Virginia Certified Commercial Applicator.

If testing at the DMV or online with Everblue, print out and mail the Application for Private Pesticide Application Certification form to VDACS-OPS, or complete the application process online using the VDACS Pesticide Online Portal. If testing by written exam at a Virginia Cooperative Extension office, the application form will be completed during your exam appointment.

Commercial Applicators

Find out if you meet the requirements to become a Virginia Certified Private Applicator.

Print out and mail the appropriate Application for Commercial Pesticide Application Certification form to VDACS-OPS, or complete the application process online using the VDACS Pesticide Online Portal.

Pesticide Business License

Find out if you meet the requirements to obtain a Virginia Pesticide Business License.

Print out and mail the appropriate Application for Virginia Pesticide Business License form and required fee to VDACS-OPS offices, or complete the application process online using the VDACS Pesticide Online Portal.

Scheduling Your Test

Take your exam(s) on a touch-screen computer at your local Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Customer Service Center. There is no additional fee to take the exam at DMV. To find a DMV testing site visit: https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/DMVLocator/

IMPORTANT: All applicators must submit an application to VDACS-OPS and receive a Letter of Authorization BEFORE testing at the DMV. You must bring a copy of the Letter of Authorization with you to the DMV, or you will not be able to take the exam.

Upon passing the exam, you will receive a temporary certificate.

Take your exam(s) online from your home or office via Everblue’s online testing portal. This option requires a $26.78 online testing fee, plus a $1.08 credit card processing fee, for each exam. The exam(s) can be taken 24 hours a day, seven days a week during the 90-day authorization period. Computer, webcam, and microphone required. If you provided an email on your application, you should receive an email from Everblue with further details. If you did not provide an email and wish to test online, send an email to the Office of Pesticide Services at opsclrt.vdacs@vdacs.virginia.gov.

Upon passing the exam, you will receive a temporary certificate.

EverBlue Help Center is the fastest way to resolve any issues or questions you may run into with the EverBlue testing program. You can request to talk to an expert over the phone once you've submitted the help form.

Commercial Applicators and Registered Technicians can take a written exam by appointment with a local Pesticide Investigator or at a VDACS testing center. Contact the Office of Pesticide Services at opsclrt.vdacs@vdacs.virginia.gov to schedule an appointment. There is no additional fee to take the exam with a Pesticide Investigator or at a VDACS testing center.

You must bring a copy of the Letter of Authorization with you to your appointment, or you will not be able to take the exam.
