California Jury Instructions in Automated Templates

Automated Templates help you save time and reduce the risk of errors by building your California Judicial Council Civil Jury Instructions (CACI) and Criminal Jury Instructions (CalCrim) with the relevant content and instructions based on answers you provide in an automated questionnaire.

Appearance

Interview Outline - Section on the left that includes the brief headers of the document . It is collapsible.
Interview - Main portion of the screen that includes the questions for each section of the form. As questions are answered more questions can appear.
Additional Information - Section that includes commentaries applicable to that part of the interview. The panel is collapsible.

Assemble a Complete Set of Instructions

  1. Check the Source Collection for the instructions you would like to assemble: Judicial Council of California Civil Jury Instructions (CACI), or Judicial Council of California Criminal Jury Instructions.
  2. Select Assemble a Complete Set of Instructions and click the Assemble Complete Set of Instructions and Verdict Forms link (Civil) or Assemble a Complete Set of Instructions link (Criminal) at the top of the page.
  3. In the Getting Started dialog, select Go to Recent Work Items to continue working on a document, Work Item Name to start a new one, or Answer File or Client Intake (Optional) to use answers from a different form.
  4. Select the Format For Instructions.
  5. Click Finish to go to the interview.
  6. Select the series you would like include in the instructions.
  7. Select the individual instructions inside a series to include them in the instructions.
  8. Fill in the answers to the questions being asked, and view Drafting Notes when available.
  9. Continue through the interview. If questions were answered incorrectly, click Actions at the top of the interview pane and select Clearall answers. To clear an individual field click the "X" icon next to the field.
  10. Click Save & Exit to save the answer and go to Recent Work Items or Click on Finish to deliver your document.
    Note: Go to a previous part of the interview by selecting the relevant part from the Interview Outline pane. Questions are not mandatory.

Reordering Series and Instructions

  1. Select the series or instructions you would like to include.
  2. Select Yes under Would you like to reorder the series?
  3. Select the series or instruction you would like to move.
  4. Select Move row up or Move Row down.
  5. Repeat the previous step until the series and instructions are in the desired order.
    Note: Click Reset Order to return series and instructions to the default order.
